During the long MLK weekend, mommy left the boys to have some fun at home and went for a girls scrapbook weekend at the lakehouse. We left on Friday and on Sunday the husbands came down with the kiddos. We decided to go to the Natural History Museum in Gainesville. It was awesome. None of us had ever been, and best of all it was FREE! Gotta love that. In the lobby was this huge mastadon and a little further back there was a giant mammoth.
There was so much to explore and so many fossils and skeletons. I have never seen so many in one place. Lennox especially loved the jaguars and sharks. And he got to check it all out with his buddy, Kate.
There were hands-on activities everywhere. Like this, where Lennox could look at ocean life.
And these cool drawers that opened up from a seascape wall. Inside were all kinds of fossils and bones and replicas. Really cool!
They have a huge butterfly garden and we got to see the butterfly labs. We were even able to see some butterflies coming out of their cocoons. The butterfly garden had a little entrance fee and we decided not to do that. With as many trips to the lake as we take, it will be nice to have something to look forward to on another trip.
The kiddies always love the lake and running wild in the backyard. That evening they helped daddy grill out. They seriously stayed outside the entire time he was cooking :-) We all spent the night relaxing and playing some board games. The lakehouse was a wonderful little MLK weekend getaway.
This weekend we celebrated mommy's birthday with family on Saturday and on Sunday took some time to head to the park to play. Lennox loved every minute of it!
Such a big boy, climbing this all by himself. I think it was harder for mom to stay away and not hover behind him. Big step for me :-)
On Monday night, my boys went shopping for my birthday gift. It was really cute. Lennox ran home to tell me he got my gifts. Lucky for daddy he didn't say what they were. This year was the first year he sang all of "Happy Birthday" to me and it was so adorable. And now that my birthday is over. I can start planning Lennox's. Woohoo!
